history
After the Second World War , Buchenhain was initially part of the Soviet Zone and, emerging from it, was in the GDR on October 7, 1949 . This was to remain so until the dissolution of the GDR on October 3, 1990, after which Buchenhain came to the Federal Republic of Germany in the course of German reunification as part of the new federal state of Brandenburg . As before the war, Buchenhain had belonged to the Templin district in the GDR, which until 1952 was assigned to the old Potsdam administrative district and, after its dissolution, to the Neubrandenburg district .
On October 1, 1951, the village previously named Arnimshain after the aristocratic von Arnim family was renamed Buchenhain .
On January 1, 1957, the municipality of Mellenau, formed in 1928, was incorporated into Buchenhain and expanded the municipality to the south.
In 1992 the Boitzenburg (Uckermark) office was set up, to which Buchenhain was also assigned.
In 1993 the district of Uckermark was created, to which the district of Templin, which had existed since 1818, was incorporated. Buchenhain now belonged to the new district.
The previously independent municipality of Buchenhain with the residential areas Fürstenau, Krewitz and Mellenau was added to the newly created municipality of Boitzenburger Land on December 31, 2001, to which the village has belonged ever since. The Boitzenburg (Uckermark) office, which had existed since 1992, was dissolved at the same time. As part of the new large community, Buchenhain remained part of the Uckermark district.
