About this picture
Location of the district in the GDR

The district of Neubrandenburg (until 1968) or district of Neubrandenburg-Land (1969–1990) was a district in the Neubrandenburg district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the district of Neubrandenburg in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . His area is now part of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The seat of the district administration was in the middle town of Neubrandenburg , which from 1969 no longer belonged to the district.

geography

location

The district of Neubrandenburg (-Land) was in the middle of the district of the same name. It extended from the district capital mainly in (north) east direction.

Neighboring areas

The district of Neubrandenburg-Land bordered clockwise to the north, beginning with the districts of Anklam , Ueckermünde , Strasburg , Neustrelitz , the urban district of Neubrandenburg , Waren and Altentreptow .

history

In the Soviet occupation zone , the Stargard district was dissolved in Mecklenburg in 1946 . The district of Neubrandenburg was formed from its north-eastern part, including the previously independent city of Neubrandenburg . On July 25, 1952, there was a comprehensive district reform in the GDR , in which, among other things, the states were dissolved. Parts of the district of Neubrandenburg fell to the new districts of Altentreptow , Strasburg and Ueckermünde . The district of Neubrandenburg was formed from the remaining district area. On January 1, 1969, the city of Neubrandenburg became a district again, whereby the district lost more than half of its population. The district, which now consisted of two separate areas, has since been called Neubrandenburg-Land.

On May 17, 1990, the district of Neubrandenburg-Land became the district of Neubrandenburg. When the two German states were reunified , the district of Neubrandenburg was assigned to the re-established state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . During the first district reform in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which came into force on June 12, 1994, it was incorporated into the new Mecklenburg-Strelitz district , which became part of the Mecklenburg Lake District in 2011 .

coat of arms

Coat of arms of the district of Neubrandenburg
Blazon : “Diagonally divided by a blue wavy strip that is widened to the left and trimmed with silver at the top; Above in red a silver right woman's arm emerging from the left upper corner, clad with a silver puffed sleeve and a silver bow tied around the forearm, holding a dimantic gold ring between thumb and forefinger; below, in gold, a floating red city gate with an open pointed arch gate, five-stepped gable, five beam-wise illuminated pointed arch windows and two pointed side towers each with a black pointed arch window. "

The coat of arms was designed by Lothar Herpich from Neubrandenburg . It was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on February 8, 1991 and registered under No. 38 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, the wavy strip is intended to illustrate the abundance of water in the old district. The women's arm , the so-called Stargard arm , is a reminder of the area belonging to the former Stargard rule. The city gate, modeled on the Neubrandenburg Gate of the city of Friedland, is intended to symbolize the preserved medieval brick buildings and fortifications in the cities of the territory, and the opened gate to symbolize the hospitality towards visitors.

traffic

The F 96 from Stralsund via Neubrandenburg to Berlin , the F 104 from Güstrow via Neubrandenburg to Pasewalk , the F 192 from Neubrandenburg to Wismar and the F 197 from Neubrandenburg to Anklam served national road traffic .

The district area was integrated into the railway network of the GDR by the Berlin – Neubrandenburg – Stralsund and Bützow – Neubrandenburg – Stettin railway lines. In addition, the branch lines Neubrandenburg – Friedland and Neubrandenburg – Parchim existed .
