The Stargard district was a district in Mecklenburg from 1934 to 1946 . The district seat was in Neustrelitz . Today, the district is largely part of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and, to a lesser extent, the Oberhavel district in Brandenburg .
history
After Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz were reunited to form the state of Mecklenburg on January 1, 1934 , the two offices of Stargard and Strelitz and the previously unofficial cities of Feldberg , Friedland , Fürstenberg , Mirow , Stargard , Wesenberg and Woldegk became on 15. The Strelitz district was formed on January 1st, 1934 . On March 16, 1934, the district was renamed Stargard County . The two cities of Neubrandenburg and Neustrelitz remained independent; From then on Neustrelitz formed an urban district and Neubrandenburg received a special status as an independent city. On April 1, 1934, the community of Zierke left the district and was incorporated into the city of Neustrelitz. On April 1, 1939 the municipality of Liepen b. Kratzeburg from the district of Waren in the district of Stargard.
In 1939 the name of the district was changed to the district of Stargard . After the Second World War , the district initially belonged to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the Soviet occupation zone . On April 1, 1946, the district was dissolved. The district of Neubrandenburg was formed from its northeastern part, including the city of Neubrandenburg , and the district of Neustrelitz from its southwestern part, including the city of Neustrelitz . These two districts were assigned to the Neubrandenburg district of the GDR in 1952.
Afterlife
In 1994, the Mecklenburg-Strelitz district was re-established within the boundaries of the Stargard district from 1946, with the exception of the city of Neubrandenburg, which has again been independent since 1969, and Fürstenberger Werder , which was ceded to Brandenburg in 1950 .
