Hohenzieritz is a municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District in southern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Neustrelitz-Land office, which is based in the non-official city of Neustrelitz .
geography
The municipality of Hohenzieritz lies on the edge of a terminal moraine , which is 100 m above sea level. NN west of the Tollense glacial valley. The district of Prillwitz is about 70 m lower on the west bank of the Lieps , which is separated from the Tollensesee by a marshy zone and already belongs to the city of Neubrandenburg. The entire Lieps-Ufer is designated as a nature reserve. Other protected areas in the municipality are the nature reserves Rosenholz and Zippelower Bachtal and Ziemenbachtal . Hohenzieritz is about eleven kilometers from Neustrelitz and the small town of Penzlin .

history
The places Hohenzieritz ("Cyrice") and Prillwitz ("Priulbitz") were first mentioned in a deed of donation in 1170, through which Prince Casimir of Pomerania transferred several villages to the diocese of Havelberg for the foundation of a monastery. At that time, the places belonged to the Land of Penzlin and were among the goods with which Prince Nikolaus von Werle enfeoffed the brothers Hermann and Heinrich von Peckatel in 1274.
Hohenzieritz
In the second half of the 18th century the Hohenzieritz Castle was built and the Hohenzieritz Park was laid out. During this time, the places fell to the sovereign Adolf Friedrich IV as a "settled" fief , who gave Hohenzieritz to his brother and successor Karl II . He had the Hohenzieritz Castle increased in 1790 and used it as a summer residence. His daughter, Queen Luise of Prussia, died here in 1810 .
Prillwitz
A castle was built in Prillwitz in the 13th century. Prillwitz was also called “Städeken Prilevitz” in the following . Until around 1300, the villages were owned by the cathedral chapter to Havelberg . After that they became the pawn of history and often changed hands. The brothers Hermann and Heinrich von Peckatel , Achim von Heydebreke , von Blankenburg , von Maltzahn , von Bülow , von Behr , von Finkh and 1733 Hans Christian von Fabian are named as feudal lords . Christoph August von Bredow grew up after the death of his father with his uncle Asmus Wilhelm von Bredow (born January 4, 1731 in Prillwitz, † September 18, 1799 in Markau) on Gut Prillwitz. From 1887 to 1889 the " Liepser Schlösschen " was built for Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich V in Prillwitz .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE HOHENZIERITZ * LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".

- The building was built by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel in 1823 and served as a forge until 1961. Today it houses a home parlor including a Luisenkammer and is looked after on a voluntary basis.
- Round church (former castle church)
- This building was built in 1806 by order of Duke Charles II . Friedrich Wilhelm Dunckelberg carried out the order. The entrance is adorned with a triangular gable and half-columns in the Doric style.
- Pitcher building
- The jug building was also built by Friedrich Wilhelm Dunckelberg in 1804.
- Louis oak near the sand mill with a chest height of 7.50 m (2016).
Prillwitz
- Settlement chamber from Slavic times
- In the Lieps several islands populated during the Slav period and the Nonnenhof peninsula. The legendary Slavic sanctuary Rethra is believed to be in this area . However, so far there has not been any scientific proof of this.
- Hunting Lodge Prillwitz (also: Liepser Schlösschen )
- The Prillwitz hunting lodge directly on the Lieps (private property). The hunting lodge is embedded in a landscape park that has been reconstructed since April 2009.
- Prillwitz Castle Hill
- Directly at the village cemetery is a huge early German castle hill. In winter and spring you can see its enormous dimensions from afar. Remains of the field stone foundation can be found above the system. The facility was built directly after the Slav period in the 13th century and has a surface area of 50 by 70 meters. The floor plan is almost square.
- Village church
- The original brick building dates from the Middle Ages, was rebuilt as a half-timbered building in 1730 and received a tower in neo-Gothic style in 1893. An order of garter adorns the main entrance.
- Chapel of the Good Shepherd
- The chapel was donated by the owner of the hunting lodge. It was built in 2011 using clinker bricks that are more than 100 years old, based on designs by the Berlin architects Krieger + Mielke .
Transport links
You can get to Hohenzieritz via Peckatel on the B 192 or via Blumenholz on the B 96 . There are good road connections to the surrounding cities of Neubrandenburg , Penzlin , Neustrelitz and Waren (Müritz) .
The connection to Neustrelitz is during the week with the buses of MVVG ensured. The nearest train station is also in Neustrelitz. a. on the Berlin – Rostock line .
