Zwenzow is a district of the municipality Userin in the Mecklenburg Lake District with about 100 inhabitants and is located directly on the north bank of the Great Labussee , bordering the Müritz National Park .

history

More than a thousand years ago, the Wends settled on the Labussee and founded a fishing village. The place name Zwenzow comes from the word sveca , which roughly means residence of the holy family . In 1275 Zwenzow was mentioned as Swenza and in 1568 as Tzuuentze . After the plague ravaged the area around 1350, the name was used as a field name for 400 years - Zwenzow no longer had residents.

It was not until the end of the 18th century that a new settlement was built with a tar smelter and timber maintenance facility. The school, established in 1878, was used until 1958.

At the turn of the century, the so-called summer visitors who came from the big cities to the untouched nature brought an upswing . The house on the lake was built for them at the edge of the forest , with a large glass veranda with a view of the Labussee. After the Second World War, this house became a rest home for mothers , and after the fall of the Wall it became a bathhouse .

The Zwenzower lock was built in 1934 as a connection between the Useriner See and the Großer Labussee to raft long timber . At 80 meters, it is the longest lock in the Mecklenburg Lake District and also the only one that can be accessed directly from the lake.

On July 1, 1950 Zwenzow was incorporated into Userin.
