Location of Genzkow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Genzkow is a district of the city of Friedland in the east of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

geography

Genzkow is located about two kilometers east of the Datze glacial valley and in the south of the city of Friedland. The terrain gradually rises from the Datzetal in an easterly direction to the terminal moraine arc of the Brohmer Mountains .

history

The district of Genzkow has been settled since the Neolithic. For example, there were once southeast of the Chaussee Neubrandenburg- Friedland over 20 large stone and tumulus graves from the Neolithic and Bronze Age . They were destroyed by stone carvers in the 19th century. The Neubrandenburg Museum has the hilt of a full-hilted bronze sword from one of the Genzkow barrows . In the area of the border to the Friedland district there is a half-destroyed large stone grave with “bowls” on the capstone. There are two preserved barrows from the Bronze Age nearby. A late Roman coin comes from a site that cannot be localized. Slavic and early German ceramic fragments were picked up in the fields around Genzkow.

In 1298 Genzkow was first mentioned as a place in a document. The Genzkower Feldsteinkirche was built in the second half of the 13th century. After various security measures in the 1990s, the church is no longer in acute danger of collapse. The manor house, now owned by the municipality, dates from the second half of the 18th century.

On May 26, 2019, the community of Genzkow was incorporated into the city of Friedland . It is administered by the Friedland Office , located in the Friedland City Administration.
