- April: The short film As Seen Through a Telescope is released under the title The Professor and His Field Glass . Director George Albert Smith is a member of the Brighton School .
- April to November: Films from the Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre system are presented at the World Exhibition . With Cyrano by Bergerac, there is the first film with sound and hand-colored film in film history.
- October 31 : Oskar Messter founds the company Projection GmbH, which will manufacture film technology devices and produce short films.
- November 11th : The entirely hand-colored French silent film Jeanne d'Arc by director Georges Méliès is premiered.
- November 16 : The stop-motion -Animationsfilm The Enchanted Drawing by J. Stuart Blackton is by Thomas Alva Edison published.
- November: Grandma's Reading Glass by director George Albert Smith is published. It is one of the first films to be shot from different perspectives.
