On May 1, the film has Citizen Kane by Orson Welles premiered.	James Stewart wins the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Philadelphia Story .
The German propaganda film Ohm Krüger premieres.

April 4th : The feature film Ohm Krüger with Emil Jannings in the title role has its world premiere in Berlin . The anti-British propaganda film is one of the most elaborate film productions in National Socialist Germany and is a great success with the public. It is the first film to be awarded the title “Film of the Nation”.
May 1st : Premiere of Citizen Kane (Director: Orson Welles ). This initially less commercially successful production is considered by numerous critics to be the best film of all time.
October 3 : The crime film The Maltese Falcon by John Huston premieres in the USA. In the third film adaptation of Dashiell Hammett 's novel of the same name , the director stayed close to the original for the first time during the eight-week filming period. Humphrey Bogart plays the lead role of die-hard private detective Sam Spade. The low-budget production was a great success and marked the beginning of the classic era of film noir .

October 23 : In New York, the movie musical You'll Never Get Rich ( Reich you'll never ) with Rita Hayworth on the side of Fred Astaire Premiere.

October 31 : In Berlin, women are better diplomats , the first German feature film in color has its premiere.

14 November : Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller Suspicion ( suspected ), with Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine in the lead roles, has premiere. The novel is based on Anthony Berkeley .

This year's Academy Awards will take place on February 27th at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles . President Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivers a speech live on the radio. This makes him the first president to attend the Academy Awards.
