Florinda Bolkan ( real . Florinda Soares Bulcão ; born February 15, 1941 in Uruburetama , Ceará ) is a Brazilian actress . She is an essential and versatile exponent of the Italian arthouse and grindhouse cinema with a smoky voice and a seductive ambience. In 1971 and 1973 she won the David di Donatello for best actress.

Life

Florinda Bolkan is the daughter of the poet, journalist and politician José Pedro Soares Bulcão (1873–1942), who was a member of the parliament of Ceará from 1921 to 1928. Her mother, Maria Hosana Sousa Bulcão, Soares Bulcão's second wife, was of Indian descent. Bolkan had to make a living early, worked as a secretary and learned English and French. She originally lived in Fortaleza , but later moved to Rio de Janeiro and accepted a position as a flight inspector at Varig . In 1963, she visited London and Paris , where she turned down offers as a model to return to Brazil. In 1967 she was brought to modeling and acting by Luchino Visconti in Rome . For her film career, she adopted the name "Florinda Bolkan". Her twenty year relationship with actress and producer Marina Cicogna helped her quickly settle in Italy.

After her first role in Metti, una sera a cena (1968), she quickly gained a foothold in the film business; its discoverer occupied it the following year. In 1970 she played a leading role in Elio Petri's film Investigations against a Suspect Citizen , which received the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1970 and the Oscar for best foreign language film in 1971 . In 1971, for The Glory of Life and 1973, for Dear Parents , she won the David di Donatello , the most important Italian film award, for best actress. Bolkan starred in artistically remarkable films as well as in Exploitation -Ware and in 1978 in an American television series. She also lived in America for a while before she returned to Italy , where she mainly worked in the theater.

With her participation in the series Alone against the Mafia , she became known to a new generation; She continued to play on Italian stages and on television into the new millennium. In 2000 she produced the self-penned film I didn't know Tururu , in which she also played the lead and directed. The film won a number of awards.

In addition, Bolkan has published a cookbook and runs an aid organization for children. She's currently living in a farmhouse in rural Bracciano north of Rome .

Bolkan's half-sister, the model Sônia Ribeiro (1950–2017; from the mother's second marriage) was married to Willy Bogner junior from 1972 until her death , a former ski racer, filmmaker and heir to the German fashion company Bogner .
