action

Stephen Wallace, a burglary specialist, comes out of Hamburg prison after two years. Before he can meet his wife Anna, he is contacted by gang boss Müller, who suggests a break-in into a technically well-equipped bank that is supposed to bring in two million dollars. At first he hesitates, but after meeting the daredevil Marco, he decides to dare the coup with him. Unnoticed by him, a romance develops between Marco and Anna. The ingeniously planned robbery initially runs smoothly until the company is discovered by Marco and Stephen is injured. Nevertheless, he manages to take the booty to the ship with which he wants to sail into a secure future. But there he discovers Anna and Marco. He shoots Marco and allows himself to be arrested.

criticism

"Constructed and psychologically simple crime story, but effectively and skillfully staged", so the lexicon of the international film . Pietro Bianchi wrote that the film looked like “a mediocre painting in the most elegant of surroundings. The psychological constellation of the three main characters is also quickly worn out, but the thriller encores are exciting, especially the scenes in the garden. ”Others saw a commercial product that was planned to the bitter end or a work that almost exclusively focused on suspense. Karsten Thurau, on the other hand, praised: "The film shows through its fine and believable actors human abysses that can captivate at any time."

Remarks

The film, partly shot in Hamburg at the beginning of 1972, grossed 201 million lire in Italy .

In 2017, the Hamburger Morgenpost traced the route “one of the most spectacular chase scenes of its time”: “Puppo [...] is hunting Gemma with his Opel Admiral. He escapes in a two-door '58 Plymouth Belvedere, which curiously turns into a four-door Dodge Dart with pimped-up tail fins. A breathtaking chase scene lasts around six minutes, starting in front of a bar on Bernhard-Nocht-Straße with a view of the Michel, down Davidstraße to the harbor, past the Landungsbrücken and into the city center via Johannes-Brahms-Platz and then through the port area and the Speicherstadt.
