Giuliano Gemma
Giuliano Gemma (born September 2, 1938 in Rome , † October 1, 2013 in Civitavecchia ) was an Italian actor .
Life
Gemma grew up in Reggio nell'Emilia , but returned to Rome with his parents in 1944. Gemma was active as an athlete in his early years . His great role model was Burt Lancaster .
After starting out as a stuntman , he has worked with 18 years ago as an extra and got first supporting roles in historical films . In 1959 he was seen as a bathing Roman in William Wyler's monumental film Ben Hur and in 1961 as Krios in Kadmos - Tyrann von Thebes . In 1962 Luchino Visconti hired him for the small role of a general of Garibaldi's troops in The Leopard .
Become known as Nicolas in Angélique films, Gemma specialized mid-1960s spaghetti westerns . With Adios Gringo he made the breakthrough in this genre in 1965. In some films he played under the pseudonym Montgomery Wood . Alongside Clint Eastwood , Gemma was one of the most famous performers in this genre, which increased its market value.
In the early 1970s, Gemma also played more sophisticated characters from recent history, such as B. 1970 in Valentino Orsinis The Last Partisans or 1977 in The Iron Prefect . Gemma's best achievements included the role of a lone officer in Valerio Zurlini's The Tatar Desert in 1976 and as a sports doctor in Passioni popolari in 1980 .
In 1985 Gemma returned to western for a television series . In the following years he played rather insignificant roles. Most recently, Gemma worked mainly for Italian television.
Besides acting, Gemma's passion was sculpture . Gemma was married to the journalist Baba Richerme and had two daughters from their first marriage. One daughter is the actress Vera Gemma .
Gemma was seriously injured in a car accident in his home town of Cerveteri on October 1, 2013 and died shortly afterwards in a hospital in Civitavecchia.
