Valerio Zurlini

Valerio Zurlini (born March 19, 1926 in Bologna , † October 27, 1982 in Verona ) was an Italian film director and screenwriter.

Life

Valerio Zurlini studied law and gained experience on a student stage. In 1948 he began making short documentaries. The first full-length feature film was made in 1954. Zurlini's films, for which he was mostly also responsible for the script, were realistic, but on the other hand also poetic stories with great empathy for the relationships between the characters. His last film, The Tatar Desert, based on the novel Il deserto dei Tartari by Dino Buzzati , was also his best known internationally.
