Dino Buzzati
Dino Buzzati (born October 16, 1906 in San Pellegrino near Belluno , † January 28, 1972 in Milan ) was an Italian writer , journalist , painter and editor .
Life
Dino Buzzati, who was actually called Dino Buzzati-Traverso, was born in 1906 as the second of four children in the Dolomite town of San Pellegrino.
At the request of his father, he completed a law degree. After completing his studies and then completing military service with attending an officer's school, he joined the editorial team of the Milan daily Corriere della Sera in 1928 , to which he was editor-in-chief until his death , only interrupted by the Second World War . Influenced by his experiences during a severe mastoiditis suffered in 1935, Buzzati's work also contains critical discussions about the medical profession and the hospital system. During the war he was a naval officer and war correspondent in North Africa and Sicily . In 2014, the Covadonga publishing house (Bielefeld), which specializes in cycling, published its collected reports on the Giro d'Italia 1949 - an impressive sport and contemporary history document.
In addition to his literary work, he also appeared as a painter , draftsman and set designer . In the last decade of his life, subjects and works by Buzzati had an increasingly Christian character.
Buzzati's works are considered to be decisively influenced by Franz Kafka and are attributed to Surrealism . His novel Die Tatarenwüsten , published during the World War, has strong existential traits.
