Zibaldone. Zeitschrift für Italian Kultur der Gegenwart is a German magazine that has been published twice a year in paperback format since 1986 .
The title is based on the Italian writer Giacomo Leopardi , who wrote down his ideas and aphorisms in the years 1817–1832 under the title Zibaldone (roughly: hodgepodge ) on over 4,500 pages.
The magazine draws attention to little-known aspects of Italian culture and regional studies in German-speaking countries. Their authors include not only scientists from the Italian studies , history , art history , theater studies , musicology or film studies also journalists and writers from Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. The contributions are mainly in German , but occasionally also in Italian . Well-known authors include Roberto Benigni , Umberto Eco , Karin Fleischanderl , Friederike Hausmann , Henning Klüver , Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani , Claudio Magris and Jens Petersen .
Each issue has an average of 160 pages, contains black-and-white illustrations and is dedicated to a key topic. The notebook section contains mishaps on current trends of the time, which can also lie beyond the main topic; a review section follows at the end of the issue .
The magazine is published by the Romanists Thomas Bremer ( University of Halle ) and Daniel Winkler ( University of Vienna ). Titus Heydenreich ( University of Erlangen ) was - together with Helene Harth ( University of Potsdam ) - its founder. Zibaldone was originally published by Piper ( Munich ), then by Rotbuch ( Hamburg ) and, since 2002, by Stauffenburg ( Tübingen ).
Zibaldone was awarded two Italian prizes: in 1989 with the Premio Montecchio di Studi Italo-Tedeschi and in 1996 with the Premio Nazionale per la Traduzione .
