Mario Brenta (born April 17, 1942 in Venice ) is an Italian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Brenta was trained at the film school "22 Dicembre" founded by Ermanno Olmi and Tullio Kezich and was first assistant director to Eriprando Visconti at the age of 20 , which was followed by further engagements until 1969. After moving to Rome , he worked for television, often in cooperation with Carlo Tuzii , with whom he contributed to Racconta la tua storia and Sotto processo, as well as with Alberto Moravia . After writing a script for Tuzii and another, he made his first own film in 1974, the stylistically interesting Vermisàt , which was awarded the Grolla d'Oro in Saint Vincent , but which left the general public at a loss. After documentary work, etc. a. through his mentor Olmi, he was back in the cinemas in 1989 with the feature film Maicol , which was dedicated to his documentary work ; Finally, in 1994 he made Barnabo delle montagne based on the story by Dino Buzzati , which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival . This film, too, showed his calm, slow narrative style, permeated with stunningly beautiful images.

At the AsoloArtFestival in 2010 he presented his film about Titian . Brenta teaches at various universities, such as the University of Padua .
