Karl Michael Armer

Karl Michael Armer (* 1950 ) is a German writer , cultural journalist and editor .

Life

After studying business administration, psychology and sociology, Karl Michael Armer worked for many years as creative director in the advertising industry. Since the 1970s he has emerged with a series of socially critical science fiction short stories, which have been reprinted many times and which have also garnered great attention outside of Germany. His stories have been selected for several international anthologies. In the 1980s, Armer received the Kurd-Laßwitz Prize for three years in a row , the Premio Futuro Europa in 1992 and the German Science Fiction Prize in 2005 . He edited a total of eight SF anthologies for Luchterhand and Heyne .

In addition to short stories, Armer also published several non-fiction books and over 100 articles in magazines, compilations and exhibition catalogs on a wide range of topics from literature, music, design, architecture, art and cultural history. His style history Design of the 80s, which he wrote together with Albrecht Bangert, has been published by several renowned art book publishers.

Armer's varied work has been translated into numerous languages. His texts have appeared in Argentina, Bulgaria, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Hungary and the USA, among others.
