Danilo Silvestrin (* 1942 in Bozen ) is an Italian architect and designer who has lived and worked in Munich since 1971 .

Life

Born in Bolzano and raised in Italy, Danilo Silvestrin has lived in Germany since the 1960s. After studying architecture in Milan and Florence, Silvestrin went to Düsseldorf in 1966 and studied sculpture at the Folkwang School in Essen in 1966/67 . In Düsseldorf he came into contact with some of the most innovative artists of the time and worked closely with Günther Uecker and Heinz Mack of the ZERO Group, and designed the visual interior of the Creamcheese . In his creative work he is shaped by his great love for contemporary art. And even then he was already involving the artists in projects in the design of rooms. The first transparent furniture made of Plexiglas was created, such as the “Ball” armchair. For the gallery owner and art dealer Hans Mayer, the “white house” with the “Purist” line, virtually furniture without furniture, as the bed was let into the floor. To this day, a creative dialogue with artists and the resulting creation of extraordinary “art spaces” have always taken place. In 1967 he founded his own design office and has lived in Munich since 1971. As early as the 1980s, as an architect of formal asceticism, Silvestrin combined clear design with timeless elegance. His works and designs are timeless and he harmonizes forms and functionality. "Design is the art that makes itself useful." ( Danilo Silvestrin )

Portfolio

He created furniture of the new simplicity, such as the "Dining Table 1202" for Draenert or furniture series such as "Hommage to Eilleen Gray" or "Hommage à Mondrian" (1983) and made his name an international reputation. His outstanding works include the "Pyramid Cabinet 4501", which was added to the permanent collection of the Munich City Museum in 1990, and the "Stuhl 2085" (1986). Silvestrin created further designs for ClassiCon with a three-part fireplace set “Vulcanus”, for Gunther Lambert the coat hangers “Points” (1967), for Rosenthal the table object “Hommage à Rietveld” (1989), the console “Amanta II” (1980) and for WMF the “Frac” champagne cooler and the “Tea and Coffee Service” (1985). Other customers in the design sector were BMW , Mercedes-Benz , Interlübke , Siemens and many other companies.

Silvestrin designed and realized the interiors for many houses, apartments, hotels, banks and private yachts in Europe and America. With its overall design of a house, starting with the architecture, through the design of the interiors and equipment, from all furniture to the smallest details such as B. fittings and door handles, he is the king of room and object designers .
