Amadeu Altafaj (born April 27, 1968 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish journalist.

Life

Altafaj started his career in Brussels as a correspondent for the radio station COM and the daily newspapers El Mundo  and Abc . He worked as spokesman for the Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, Louis Michel. He later became economic spokesman for the European Commission . From 2012 to 2014 he was head of cabinet of the then EU Vice-President Olli Rehn .

In September 2012 his statement on the situation in Catalonia attracted attention , according to which an independent Catalonia would very well be economically viable and would overcome the economic crisis before Spain.

On December 23, 2014, the Catalan government created the post of Permanent Representative of the Government of Catalonia to the European Union, which Amadeu Altafaj currently holds.
