Paul Raynal

Paul Raynal (born July 25, 1885 in Narbonne , † August 18, 1971 in Paris ) was a French playwright . His play Le Tombeau sous l'Arc de Triomphe (German title: "The grave of the unknown soldier") was the most played world war and homecoming drama in Europe in the interwar period .

"The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" is about a French soldier who was given leave to marry during the First World War . The tenor of the piece is a rejection of war and the indifference of people. The title of the piece refers to the tomb of the unknown soldier , consecrated in 1920, under the triumphal arch in Paris. The play was premiered in 1924 at the Paris National Theater Comédie-Française .
