action
At the beginning of the film, Charlie Brown looks for a photo album from his bookshelf and looks at the photos of his school exchange in France . Sally comes up and asks what happened after the troop left the chateau.
Charlie explains: After an accident on a country road, they drove their Citroën 2CV towards Calais . But on the way the engine failed and the car collapsed. At a scrap yard outside of a town they exchanged the car for another, also a 2CV, but with a crank starter.
After the troop had lost their way, completely tired and exhausted, they took a rest on a coastal road and spent the night in an open meadow. At dawn, Linus suddenly wakes up and walks to the beach. He recognizes this as Omaha Beach . He imagines the Allies storming the beach on D-Day . He quickly wakes up the others and tells them about the events of June 6th, 1944. They climb the Pointe du Hoc and the American military cemetery and let the events go through their heads. A short time later they visit a restaurant in Arromanches-les-Bains and are informed by Linus about the events on Gold Beach and Juno Beach .
After a while the troops leave the area and try to find Calais. However, they get lost again and stop in Flanders at a poppy field. Linus recites the poem Auf Flanderns Feldern as a reminder of the events there during the First World War. As they leave the field, Linus asks Charlie “What have we learned?”.
