Helmuth W. Mommers

Helmuth W (ilhelm) Mommers (born November 16, 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian publisher , translator and author of science fiction short stories, literary agent and draftsman.

Life

After attending grammar school in 1961, Helmuth W. Mommers became a regular employee of the Pioneer magazine of the SF Club Austrotopia. He published drawings under the pseudonym Arol in Pioneer and many other fan magazines and wrote various SF short stories.

In 1962 he founded a literary agency together with Arnulf Dieter Krauss, and in the following year the PANORAMA agency together with Kurt Luif and Ernst Vlcek . In a team with Ernst Vlcek, both published their first work in 1964. He also worked full-time as an editor, writer and translator until 1966. His anthologies published jointly with AD Krauss by Heyne-Verlag are considered groundbreaking; they were the first in the world to publish crime and Christmas stories in connection with science fiction.

In 1966 he moved to Switzerland, where he completed a commercial and IT training. This led to the fact that from 1967 he was no longer literary and until 1977 only worked as a computer specialist and commercial clerk.

From 1977 to 1998 he ran two jewelry stores. In 1999 he moved to Bendinat on Mallorca , and since 2002 he has been actively involved in SF literature. His oeuvre includes over 50 short stories that have been published in various countries. a. in Japan, Russia and the USA. He is alternately in Davos Switzerland, Vienna and Mallorca.

In 2011 he opened the library of the fantastic literature Villa Fantastica in Vienna.
