The science fiction year

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Science Fiction Year: A yearbook for the science fiction reader is an almanac in which secondary literature mainly on science fiction literature, but also - films , radio plays , comics and computer games is published on an international scale. It is the only publication of its kind in German-speaking countries.

history

The predecessor was Heyne Science Fiction Magazin , which was published in twelve issues from 1981 to 1985 . Both publications were initiated by the publisher Rolf Heyne . The yearbook has been published annually since 1986, initially by Heyne Verlag . In addition to literary articles, reviews , interviews , market reports and bibliographies are published . Each year has a thematic focus. From 1985 to 2002 Wolfgang Jeschke was the sole editor , from 2003 on together with Sascha Mamczak and from 2012 on with Sebastian Pirling. In 1988 Wolfgang Jeschke was awarded the Kurd-Laßwitz-Prize (special prize) for The Science Fiction Year .

The 2014 yearbook was the last published by Heyne; From the 2015 yearbook it was continued by Golkonda Verlag .

In October 2019, Golkonda announced that the series would be discontinued as a result of the bankruptcy proceedings of Europa Verlag , to which Golkonda-Verlag belongs. The Science Fiction Year 2019 , planned for publication on December 6, 2019 at Golkonda , for which contributions had already been completed, did not appear there. After it initially looked as if the series would be completely discontinued, it took over the Hirnkost Verlag KG , headed by Klaus Farin . In a press release on its own website on December 5, 2019, the new publisher Hirnkost announced that it had launched a crowdfunding campaign to cope with the publication of the volume for 2019, which was successfully completed on January 19, 2020.

criticism

“In addition to overviews of the German, American and British SF scene, bibliographies on primary and secondary literature and numerous book reviews, the compendium contains articles on the media of computers, radio plays and film / TV. In doing so, the authors always retain their curiosity for the present, as the essays on SF in the GDR, on Ars Electronica , nanotechnology or the hollow world theory prove. The author interviews are a real treasure trove for anyone interested in SF. "
