The Golkonda Verlag is founded on 1 January 2010 publisher headquartered in Berlin and Munich , which apart from limited liability shareholders Hannes Riffel, who from 2015 as Head of Research Department SciFi / Fantasy for the S. Fischer operates and Karlheinz Schlögl some freelance workers for typesetting , production and editing are also included. The publisher is part of the Berlin fantastic and crime scene. Its name refers to a classic of fantastic Soviet literature, the novel Golkonda nuclear volcano by the Strugatzki brothers . On April 1, 2017, the publishing house was taken over by publisher Christian Strasser and continued as part of Europa Verlag . The publishing program was initially designed by Michael Görden; after almost two years, Melanie Wylutzki took over the role of program director in spring 2019.

Publishing program

Literary focus

The focus of the publishing program is fantastic literature with authors such as Arkadi and Boris Strugatzki and Hal Duncan and sophisticated science fiction with authors such as David Marusek , Ted Chiang and Paolo Bacigalupi as well as detective novels . The publisher has had commercial success with works by Texan Joe R. Lansdale and first and new editions of the Captain Future novels and stories by Edmond Hamilton . In addition, novels by Berlin authors Frank Böhmert and Tobias O. Meißner are published here.

From 2015 the publisher took over the publication of the yearbook Das Science Fiction Jahr from Heyne Verlag .

Design and collector's editions

The small publisher is looking for its niche with elaborate graphic design of its books, including the use of good paper for paperbacks. Hal Duncan, Tobias O. Meißner and the Strugatzki brothers have released limited collector's editions in linen or leather or are planned. Probably the most elaborate publishing project to date is a linen or leather-bound edition of the works by the Strugatzki brothers, parallel to the publication of the edition in paperback by Heyne Verlag .

Editions, e-books and newsletters

The publisher also has e-books in its program and issues a newsletter called the Golkonda Gazette . The print run of the first editions of the paperbacks is between 200 and 3000 copies, while the collector's edition of the Strugatzki edition is limited to 222 copies.
