Julius Franz (born November 4, 1881 in Rackschütz , Neumarkt district , † 1938 in Breslau ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending elementary school, Franz worked as an agricultural worker from 1895 to 1898 and then worked as a miner until 1908. From 1908 to 1909 he worked as a colporteur for the Breslauer Volkswacht in Altwasser and from 1909 to 1911 he worked as a local employee for the German Miners' Association, first in Gottesberg , and from 1910 in Waldenburg . He was also a graduate of the central trade union school in Berlin . From October 1911 to 1918 he worked as an editor for the Silesian Mountain Rescue Service in Waldenburg and from 1914 he also acted as chairman of the branch of the miners' association in Gottesberg. From 1918 to 1927 he was district manager of the Association of Miners in Germany for the Oberschlesien district in Katowice , and since 1922 in Hindenburg .

Franz joined the Social Democrats politically, became a member of the board of the SPD Waldenburg and in 1919 was a district advisory member of the demobilization committee for the Opole administrative region . From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian state assembly and from 1921 to 1933 a member of the Prussian state parliament . During the referendum campaign in Upper Silesia in 1921, he was active in the German committee. For his achievements there he was awarded the Silesian Eagle Order and the voting medal. Franz was a paid city councilor in Gleiwitz from April to September 1927 , then first second mayor until April 1930 and finally, until his leave of absence in April 1933, mayor of Hindenburg. In addition, he was a member of the board of the Silesian and Upper Silesian Association of Cities, was chairman of the United Associations of Homeland-loyal Oberschlesier in the district of Hindenburg, and since 1930 has been a member of the supervisory board of the Prussian Mining and Huts AG .
