Thomas Ziegler (writer)

Thomas Ziegler (actually Rainer Friedhelm Zubeil ; born December 18, 1956 in Könau ; † September 11, 2004 in Cologne ) was a German science fiction writer and translator. Other pseudonyms were Helmut Horowitz , Tommy Z. , John Spider and Henry Quinn .

Life

Zubeil, who grew up in Wuppertal, wrote his first independent novel Eisvampire in 1977 under the pseudonym Henry Quinn, which he later also used for joint works with Uwe Anton and Ronald M. Hahn , who first used this code name and, so to speak, "loaned" it to his colleague. He received the Kurd-Laßwitz Prize twice for Die Voices of the Night : in 1984 for the original story and in 1994 for the resulting novel with the same title. He wrote in the 80s for the science fiction series The Terranauten (under the pseudonym Robert Quint ) and Perry Rhodan . He was also an exposé author for both series at times . He also created the science fiction paperback series Flaming Bess and the fantasy series Sardor, which was incomplete with two volumes . The third part, planned as a conclusion, was found in fragments in the estate. The missing chapters were added by Markolf Hoffmann and published in 2013. Outside of the SF scene, he wrote bizarre detective novels, mainly located in the Cologne area.

In addition to writing, Rainer Zubeil also worked as a translator from English. His focus was on science fiction novels as well as compendia and non-fiction books on Star Wars . Rainer Zubeil died unexpectedly of heart failure in September 2004 after he had given the fan community hopes of a comeback in SF literature at the 2004 ColoniaCon. The author Ronald M. Hahn manages his literary estate .
