Perrypedia
The Perrypedia is an online reference in the form of wikis for German science fiction - series Perry Rhodan and everyone else in the fictitious Perry Rhodan universe settled products, such as the sister series Atlan .
General
The name "Perrypedia" is made up of the terms Perry Rhodan and Encyclopedia . Perrypedia was started in January 2004 as a project of the Perry-Rhodan-Online-Community (PROC). It is now financed through donations that are administered by the PERRY RHODAN Fanzentrale eV. In 2006 the lexicon contained 12,000 key words in 8,000 articles; in the meantime the Perrypedia contains over 58,000 key words in 39,004 articles.
Perrypedia is a founding member of the German Fan Wiki Ring.
Goal setting
The aim of the project, in which everyone can contribute their knowledge, is the creation of a complete, free encyclopedia of the Perry-Rhodan universe, also known as the “Perryverse”.
The historical and technological background of the Perry-Rhodan series as well as its “cosmological” superstructure have reached a level of complexity and a wealth of detail in the more than 50 years of its existence, which often causes difficulties not only for new readers or readers who have come back after a while, the connections to understand. Even so-called “old readers” who have remained loyal to the series for many years can easily lose track of things. The Perrypedia is intended to serve as a reference work for both groups. Some authors of the Perry Rhodan series also use the Perrypedia at times as a memory aid.
Content
In addition to articles on all conceivable terms (locations, people and peoples, technology, flora and fauna), the description of cosmic relationships of the Perryversum and the summaries of the novels' contents, there is information on the environment of the series (products, authors, draftsmen, etc.). Individual details are noted down and updated with great meticulousness and usually provided with references, sometimes after lengthy clarifying discussions, in order to meet the requirements of reliability and completeness. According to the journalist Helmut Hein, the lexicon entries in Perrypedia are "usually more comprehensive and detailed, and often more astute and 'deeper' in analysis than we are used to from Wikipedia".
Systematic lists of all key words, detailed lists of all action cycles in the series and a chronological presentation of the entire history of the Perryversum make it easier for interested parties to get started, even in older cycles of the series that has grown since 1961. In addition, by-products of the series that are closely interwoven with it and the story arcs shown, such as paperbacks and special publications, are recorded and processed. “Atlan”, the sister series of the Perry-Rhodan series, is also documented in Perrypedia.
