Wieren is a district of the municipality Wrestedt in the Lüneburg Heath in the district of Uelzen in Lower Saxony .

history

On July 1, 1972, the communities of Bollensen, Drohe, Emern, Kahlstorf, Könau, Kroetze (until September 10, 1936 Kroitze) and Ostedt were incorporated. Gavendorf, Groß Pretzier, Klein Pretzier and Kroetzmühle also belonged to Wieren. On November 1, 2011, the community was dissolved and merged with Wrestedt and Stadensen to form the new community of Wrestedt.

Old names: 1339 Wiren, 1342 Wiren, 1357 Wyren

The place name is apparently named after the location at a bend in the Ilmenau. It is based on Middle Low German “we” for “winding”, so it means “place at the bend”.

The Evangelical Lutheran Jacobus parish in Wieren was merged with the Evangelical Lutheran St. Dionys parish of Lehmke in Wrestedt to form the parish of Lehmke-Wieren in Wrestedt on October 1, 2011 . It belongs to the south-east region of the Uelzen church district .

Sports

For sporting activities there is the Turn- und Sportverein Wieren von 1921 e. V. (in short: TuS Wieren), who offers football, gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, Nordic walking, jazz dance and the acceptance of the German sports badge for all interested parties. Another department is the Prince's Guard. The swimming department has meanwhile been integrated into Aktion Sommerbad Wieren e. V. (ASW for short), which has also been running the Wieren summer pool completely on its own since 2006.

The station Wieren is located on the America Line called Stendal-Uelzen railway . The station is a separation station in which the Braunschweig – Wieren line joins the American line to Uelzen.

The Landjugend Wieren offers young people from Wieren and the surrounding area a leisure meeting place every Friday evening between the ages of 15 and 30. Various activities such as actions to improve the common good are organized. For example, as part of the 72-hour campaign by the Lower Saxony rural youth, a spring pond and a sensory path were created in the summer pool in Wieren.
