Old Church of Wieren

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old church in Wieren , a district of the Wrestedt community in the Uelzen district , is an old stone church , but with its choir, it is also a work of brick Gothic . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Lehmke-Wieren in the parish of Uelzen of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

The long nave was probably built from field stones in the 12th century, while the brick choir was not added until 1433.

The Gothic interior was completed in 1464 a. a. with a Gothic winged altar that is now in the St. Michaelis Church in Schnega .

The wooden bell tower was first mentioned in 1657.

In 1911, due to the impending dilapidation and lack of space with only 226 seats, the new St. Jakobus Church became the main church of the community. In the church, which is now well renovated, services are still held.

The furnishings, namely a Renaissance altar from 1649 with picture panels, which the parish had received from the former castle chapel in Wrestedt around 1850 , and a Pietà (around 1480) were taken over into the new church.
