Angélica Gorodischer ( July 28, 1928 in Buenos AiresFebruary 5, 2022 in Rosario ) was an Argentine writer .

Life

Angélica Gorodischer was born Angélica Arcal in Buenos Aires in 1928; after marrying the architect Sujer Gorodischer in 1948, she adopted his family name. She attended elementary and high school at Escuela Normal No. 2 de Profesoras in Rosario in the province of Santa Fe , where she resided from 1936. She began studying at the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras of the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, but did not complete it.

In 1964 she won the competition of the magazine Vea y Lea with the crime story "En verano, a la siesta y con Martina". In 1988 she received a Fulbright scholarship to attend the University of Iowa 's International Writing Program . In 1991, also thanks to a Fulbright scholarship, she taught at the University of Northern Colorado . In 1998 she was awarded the Sociedad Argentina de Escritores (SADE) prize, named after the well-known Argentine author Silvina Bullrich , for the best novel by a woman published in three years.

In her hometown of Rosario, Angélica Gorodischer organized three important congresses on the literary work of Argentine women writers: the first took place in 1998, the second in 2000 and the third in 2002 under the title “Encuentro Internacional de Escritoras”. She has given more than 350 lectures at home and abroad, in particular on fantastic literature and on women's writing . From 1967 she was also a member of the jury for various literary prizes in Argentina and other countries and has held numerous literary workshops. She died in February 2022 at the age of 93.
