action

After the death of the Viking prince, power is shared between his feeble, devious son Eyolf and the courageous nephew Erik. Thorsten receives the decision-making authority. Erik dreams of distant shores; Eyolf from ruling alone and taking out Erik. When Erik sets sail, Eyolf's allies Sven and Olaf are there to prevent Erik from coming back.

The group of Vikings under Erik reached America after some effort and came into contact with an Indian tribe; Erik himself falls in love with Wa-Ta-Wa, whose Indian fiancé, chief of another tribe, forges plans for revenge with Sven. Meanwhile, Eyolf manipulates the travelers' messages in northern Europe, so that Erik's death is suspected and Eyolf Gutrid, who actually loves Erik, is awarded.

After Erik is captured by the tribe of the disappointed lover at the wedding with Wa-Ta-Wa, his people can free him in association with the befriended Indians; they also find the gold-hungry traitors Sven and Olaf. Erik kills Sven in a duel after he fatally wounded Wa-Ta-Wa, and Olaf also dies. Disaffected, the Vikings return to their homeland, where Erik is now the sole bearer of hope with Gutrid at his side after Eyolf's apparent plot and death.

criticism

“Beatings with swords and axes in poorly imitated Norman decor. A variant of the Italian muscle-and-sandals film ”, so the lexicon of the international film . JJ Dupuich scoffed: “America was not yet discovered, but the authors must have seen a few westerns. The dramaturgy is palpable, especially in the outside scenes. ”Francesco Mininni was even more fundamental:“ Vikings in Italian - this variant is hardly digestible, especially since Caiano never made a really good film. At best a relic of a bygone era, or: pattern without value. "

Remarks

The exterior shots were made in Spain. Alfio Caltabiano plays a double role as a loyal Viking and (under a pseudonym) the angry chief Wingar.
