Rolf Randolf

Rolf Randolf (born January 15, 1878 in Vienna ; † June 29, 1941 there ; born Rudolf Zanbauer ) was an Austrian actor , film director , film producer and screenwriter .

Life

Rolf Randolf attended the cadet school and in 1897 embarked on an officer career. In 1901 he first appeared as an actor at the Cilli City Theater . Further stage stations were St. Pölten (1902) and Preßburg (1903).

In 1904 he came to Germany and was a member of the Munich Schauspielhaus ensemble until 1914 . During the First World War, he directed his own front theater on both the Eastern and Western Fronts for three months. In 1912 he directed the Altenburger Ensemble under the direction of Wilhelm Julius Zahn (1859–1934).

Randolf first appeared as a film actor during the war. In 1918 he founded his Rolf Randolf-Film GmbH in Munich and worked as a film director at the same time. In his film adaptation of the events of Mayerling , the first ever, he played Crown Prince Rudolf himself in 1919 . Since 1935, Randolf has focused exclusively on production.

None of his works received greater attention from contemporary audiences. When he died he was one of the last independent film producers in the German Reich.
