Dieter O. Holzinger

Dieter O. Holzinger (born October 16, 1941 in Villach , Carinthia ; † August 31, 2006 in Husum , Schleswig-Holstein ) was an Austrian author , film , television and theater director .

Life

After completing his Matura, Holzinger studied theater studies in Vienna and attended an acting school . This was followed by productions, also of his own plays, at Viennese cellar theaters. From 1964 to 1969 he worked as an assistant director at the Austrian Telefilm under the artistic direction of Jörg Mauthe .

In 1965, as the director in charge, he shot his first production for television with the series The Austrian Portrait , in which 40 episodes were presented in public figures. This was followed in 1969 by the Kleines-Mediterran-Feuilleton series with Mathias Wiemann , as well as the semi-documentaries with feature film dealership Vienna 1913 - Station of History (1974) and Congress of Vienna (1980), each in collaboration with Milo Dor . In later years Holzinger devoted himself increasingly to didactic-pedagogical film. In total, he was the designer of more than 300 television and short films in the education and culture segment.

Dieter O. Holzinger has also published various books and plays as an author .

In 1987, Holzinger founded the Altenburg Abbey Summer Games and was its director until 2004 . During this time he directed numerous world premieres and new productions there.

In 1979 Dieter O. Holzinger received the Golden Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria , in 1985 the Silver Medal of Honor of the Republic of Austria. In 1999 he was awarded the title of Professor. From 2004 he was a member of the Lower Austrian Cultural Senate. For his films he received awards not only in Austria, but also in Berlin in 1980, in Frankfurt and Japan in 1985. In 2008 he was posthumously awarded the Rollett Culture Prize of the City of Baden. Dieter O. Holzinger died on August 31, 2006 in Husum on a trip through Schleswig-Holstein after a trip to the island of Sylt .
