Edwin S. Porter
Edwin Stanton Porter (born April 21, 1870 in Connellsville , Pennsylvania , † April 30, 1941 in New York City ) was an American film pioneer.
Life
Porter is known as the "father of narrative films". In 1900 he made the film Uncle Josh in a Spooky Hotel with actor Charles Manley . The first film should be followed by two sequels, this film series around the adventures of Uncle Josh is one of the first film series in film history. With The Great Train Robbery, he created the first realistic narrative film in film history in 1903 with a breathtaking 12 minutes for the time. Length.
Since he also put together scenes from different places and times, he is considered to be one of the first users of the film montage .
In 1907, Porter gave the future director DW Griffith , who at that time was still trying his luck as a playwright and actor, his first film role, thus ensuring that Griffith then turned entirely to the medium of film.
