Gyula Kabos
Gyula Kabos [ ˈɟulɒ ˈkɒboʃ ] (born March 18, 1887 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † October 6, 1941 in New York City , New York , USA ) was a famous Hungarian comedian of the 1930s.
Life
Gyula Kabos graduated from drama school in 1905 and initially worked as a dance comedian. Over the next few decades he worked in many Budapest theaters. His breakthrough as a film actor came with Hyppolit a lakáj (1931). As a result, Kabos made a large number of entertainment films in Hungary until 1938, in which he mostly played the "little man" who somehow gets through life. In 1938, the passage of Hungarian Racial Laws prevented Kabos from working on the film. In 1939 he succeeded in emigrating to the USA, but his hopes of building on past successes here as well remained in vain. Kabos became impoverished and in the autumn of 1941 he died of complications from pneumonia.
