Rolf-Dieter Zacher (born March 28, 1941 in Berlin ; † February 3, 2018 in Büdelsdorf ) was a German artist , entertainer , actor , voice actor and musician . He was seen as an actor in around 200 productions in the field of film and television.

Career

Zacher was discovered by Peter Lilienthal's assistant director , whom he happened to spot on the street. He completed an acting training at the drama school "Der Kreis" (Fritz Kirchhoff School) in Berlin. Zacher played in over 200 German television films and series. Mostly he portrayed figures on the fringes of society with a Berlin snout and wit.

In one of his first film roles, Zacher played in 1966 in Silent Guns alongside Hollywood stars such as Roddy McDowall and Montgomery Clift , who was seen here in his last role. The television film Der Griller received more attention two years later. In the same year he was also in the box office hit The Morning at Seven the World is Alright and the sequel When sweetly the moonlight sleeps on the hills (1969) can be seen.

He became known to a wider audience with the role of small crook Henry in Endstation Freiheit (1980) and received the Federal Film Prize for this film in 1982 . Between 1972 and 2006 he also starred in nine television films in the Tatort series. He was seen in at least one of each of the four consecutive decades. Among other things, he played a crook in the drug milieu in The Yellow Underskirt . This was characteristic of his role subject. One critic also called him "the best petty crook in German cinema".

In 2009 Zacher took part in the ARD -Telenovela Rote Rosen .

As a voice actor, Zacher lent his voice to Nicolas Cage (Arizona Junior , Wild at Heart) , Gabriel Byrne ( Miss Smilla's flair for snow ) and Robert De Niro (Witches Cauldron), among others . He also moderated the magazine Auf Videosehen on Sat.1 from 1989 to the first years of the 1990s , where new releases were presented on VHS videos .

Zacher was also active musically. He was a guest singer for the songs HG Wells' Take Off and Deutsch Nepal with the rock band Amon Düül II and toured with them for almost a year. Later he brought out the maxi single Slow (everything gets better) under his own name , which was produced by Abi Ofarim . In 2005 he completed a tour of the cultural impresario Michael Schmelich with the audio book project Rolf meets Zacher vs. produced by Andy Ludyk and the Jazzkantine brothers Jan-Heie and Dirk Erchinger . D-Phunk (five stars in Rolling Stone magazine). He then played one of the leading roles in the musical Gabba Gabba Hey around the American punk rock group Ramones . In 2007 Zacher made guest appearances for the rap album Mach et einfach by the rap duo Icke & Er . At the end of 2008 his own CD Latest Hits was released . Occasionally he performed during his readings with the German rock band Big Bad Shakin ' and sang songs by Gene Vincent , Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley , among others .

In 2003 Zacher's memoir Endstation Freiheit was published . In 2015, after a long absence from the camera, he took on the lead role in the music video First Day of the band Rauschenberger . In January 2016, Zacher was a participant in the TV show I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here! until he had to leave the show after eight days for health reasons.

After the war, Zacher grew up near Angermünde and moved to Berlin-Kreuzberg in the mid-1950s . There he lived in the vicinity of the painter Kurt Mühlenhaupt . First he completed an apprenticeship as a pastry chef and later, in addition to his theater training, earned money as a rock 'n' roll dancer in a restaurant run by Rolf Eden in Berlin. According to his own statements, he was the third best rock 'n' roll dancer in Berlin and received between 50 and 100 DM as a fee per evening .

After the shooting of Lautlose Waffen in 1966, Zacher bought a Porsche with which he had a serious accident. He was given medication containing morphine to relieve the pain of his back injury . When these no longer worked, he tried to use heroin to relieve the pain . As a result, he became addicted to heroin, but continued to work without his addiction initially being noticed. After more than 70 attempts at withdrawal and several prison terms , he managed to overcome his addiction in the late 1980s.

The daughter Anna Zacher (* 1972), who works as an actress and producer under the name Anna Getty, comes from a short marriage with Gisela Getty . Zacher was a vegan .

In 2015 Zacher moved from Berlin to Lübeck . Since 2017 he lived in a nursing home in Büdelsdorf , where he died on February 3, 2018.
