The poet Lenz, whose pathological hallucinations are becoming more and more unbearable, hopes for help from the gentle clergyman Oberlin. But the latter has no advice either, he regards his friend's illness as God given.
criticism
The film-dienst described the film as an “ambitious film adaptation” - which was “not always stylish” - “with aesthetically fascinating, but dramaturgically little integrated photography”. In addition, the “deeper dimensions of history” would rarely shine through.
