Lulu & Jimi is a melodramatic comedy film from 2009 directed by Oskar Roehler , who also wrote the screenplay. The film is about the love of the protagonist Lulu for Jimi, who, however, does not find the blessing of her mother, who has already chosen someone else as a husband for her daughter.

action

By chance, Lulu and Jimi meet at the fair. They fall in love with each other, but this does not correspond to the plans of Lulu's mother Gertrud. She wants her daughter to marry Ernst, who also comes from a wealthy family. Gertrud later learns that Jimi is black, which leads her to the decision to consult the Oppeln psychiatrist who is supposed to take care of Lulu. In spite of all efforts, Gertrud cannot prevent Lulu and Jimi from meeting regularly, who ultimately decide to emigrate to America.

Reviews

“Shrill, exaggerated mixture of melodrama and comedy, staged as a homage to David Lynch and his film" Wild at Heart ". Distinctive lighting design, distinctive actors and exaggerated genre patterns locate Oskar Roehler's very personal film in a colorful pop fairytale world, from which, of course, no statements about the reality in the 1950s can be derived. "

“It's a crude mix and a pretty unique thing in the current German cinema landscape. "Lulu & Jimi" has something immoderate about it; the movie loses control with glee. In one scene, a group of World War II veterans shouted horror stories: "I had a girlfriend in Stalingrad," relates a character named Harry Hass. "And do you know what I did to her? I shot her and ate her." "Lulu & Jimi" is not afraid to turn what remains under the carpet elsewhere. "

- Cristina Nord - the daily newspaper

“A really nice trip, the new Oskar Roehler factory. And that in several ways: his romance "Lulu and Jimi" is a riot of color, the heroes are on the run, the viewer can delirious and amuse himself at the same time. Oh, and the film is also critical. "
