Enfant Terrible (film)
Enfant Terrible is the 16th feature film by director Oskar Roehler and tells episodically (1967 to 1982) from the life of the German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder . Weltkino Filmverleih plans to bring the film to German cinemas on October 1st, 2020. The film is based on the script by Klaus Richter .

The film starts with a line from the chanson by Jeanne Moreau from Fassbinder's last film Querelle : “Each man kills the thing he loves”, which in turn is a quote from Oscar Wilde's last “Ballad of Reading Gaol” . The film shows episodes from Fassbinder's life in a dramatic form and with expressive imagery and brings out the many facets of the artist: from the ingenious playwright and director to the desperate seeker for himself and love to the charismatic leader who makes his way - and harassed and relentlessly urges significant other to create a unique cinematic work. Roehler's claim to get closer to the “Fassbinder Universe” with his film is expressed in an effective light and color dramaturgy as well as a scene with a Fassbinder character. Above all, however, in the importance attached to acting as a collective achievement: a top-class ensemble around the main actor Oliver Masucci allows the most important actors of the Fassbinder-influenced direction of New German Cinema to appear again - including some who themselves became what was then known as Fassbinder "Clan" belonged and now show their former companions their reference.

The film is a co-production by Bavaria Film , X Films Creative Pool , WDR , Bayerischer Rundfunk and Arte . It was shot in Cologne and Munich, with no outdoor shots, only studio shots. The film was production-funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW , Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg , FilmFernsehFonds Bayern and the German Film Funding Fund .
The film should start on May 28, 2020, but the start was postponed to autumn 2020 due to the corona pandemic. At the beginning of June 2020 it was announced that Enfant Terrible was in the "official selection", a selection of 56 films from the Cannes Film Festival originally planned for May 2020 , which have been canceled in its usual form due to the coronavirus pandemic.
