occupation

Querelle is a German-French feature film . It was shot in 1982 by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and is based on the novel Querelle (original title: Querelle de Brest ) by Jean Genet . Fassbinder died on June 10, 1982 while the film was being finalized. Querelle was shown at the Venice Film Festival at the end of August ; the film launch in the Federal Republic of Germany was on September 16, 1982.

action

When the windy sailor Georges Querelle arrives in Brest with his ship Vengeur , he visits the brothel Feria , which is run by Lysiane, the lover of Querelle's brother Robert. Querelle murders Vic, an accomplice in his drug smuggling . Through Roger, he met his lover Gil, who murdered his work colleague Theo and is now on the run from the police. Querelle and Gil fall in love; however, Querelle blames his murder on Vic Gil and turns him over to the police.

It is worth mentioning Querelle's homoerotic relationships with Lysiane's husband Nono (Norbert), who is a pub at the Feria. Querelle also has such a relationship with Mario, a police officer, and towards the end with Lieutenant Seblon, whom he serves as a lad on the ship.

In his film, Fassbinder stays very close to the novel. However, he left out the figure of Dédé, a police spy. Unlike in the book, Lieutenant Seblon records his secret diary entries with a voice recorder.
