Nora Helmer is a German television film by Rainer Werner Fassbinder from 1974. The film is based on the play Nora or A Puppet House by Henrik Ibsen .
action
Young Nora Helmer borrows money from the seedy Krogstad to take care of her seriously ill husband. To do this, she forges her father's signature. When Torvald becomes director of a bank that Krogstad is now employed by, he wants to fire Krogstad because of his past. Krogstad then blackmailed Nora by threatening to reveal her fake. Noras tries to change her husband's mind, but he doesn't want to know anything about it. When her husband learns the truth through a letter from Krogstad, he wants to cast his wife out because he fears that his career is now in jeopardy. Torvald later receives a second letter from Krogstads, in which he informs the latter that he will renounce the disclosure, causing Torvald to forgive his wife. But Nora does not accept her husband's apology. She leaves him because he did not understand the motives for her actions.
criticism
“Fassbinder's television production of the Ibsen drama fails to convey the emotional and social explosive power of the play. The characters seem to lack any individuality, the dialogues remain lifeless. The gradual emancipation process of the main character is not clear either, because their independence is emphasized too much at the beginning of the plot. A weaker work by the director. "
