Renzo Rossellini (producer)
Renzo Paolo Rossellini (born August 28, 1941 in Rome ) is an Italian film producer and director .
Life
The son of Roberto Rossellini and Isabella De Marchis , who is mostly Renzo jr to distinguish himself from his uncle . or called Renzino , lived in his youth in Paris, where he worked with Joris Ivens at an early age , participated in the Cinémathèque française and made many artistic acquaintances outside of the film world. Back in Paris, Il generale della Rovere, filmed in 1959, began as an assistant director for his father's films until 1963. With the production company "Orizzonte 2000" founded by Renzo Rossellini, a phase of television and educational films followed; he directed some of the documentaries himself. (As early as 1962 he had directed two feature films that did not make a great impression.) In 1967 he made a documentary about the island of Sicily for American television.
Rossellini's cinematic work soon shifted entirely to production: with the company "San Diego" he took care of the distribution of Latin American films in European countries from 1968, with "Gaumont Italia", of which he was the director, of the production (through the Sub-company "Opera Film"), distribution and technical developments. He also worked for "Motion Pictures" and "Renzo Rossellini Production".
Politically, he was involved in the Ospaal on the extreme left and was one of the founders of Radio Città Futura . In the 2000s, after a wedding, he moved to Los Angeles and made the documentary Diritto di sognare in 2006.
Rossellini later taught at various universities in Cuba, Rome and Santo Domingo.
