The skin (original title: La pelle) is a feature film by Liliana Cavani from 1981 with Marcello Mastroianni , Claudia Cardinale and Burt Lancaster in the leading roles. The Italian-French co-production is based on the novel of the same name by Curzio Malaparte .

Italy , 1943. The Nazis have given up Naples . The Allies invade and take over the city. US Commander General Clark tries to bring order to the city of Naples, which in the last years of the Second World War is all about survival due to poverty and hunger. Everyone has to watch how they can save their own skin. The women sell themselves as prostitutes to the American occupiers and thus earn their food. But they are not the only ones who have to sell their skin. Since the Americans misbehave, they are not exactly welcome as friends ...
