The Story of the Apostles ( Atti degli apostoli ) is a four-part Italian miniseries that was produced in 1969 in cooperation with Spain , France and Germany .

action

The apostles, led by Simon Peter, are still shocked by Jesus' death on the cross and unsure what to do next. At Pentecost they receive the Holy Spirit who gives them the strength to proclaim the word of their dead and resurrected Master. The chief priests, however, arrest Peter and John after healing a lame man in the temple, and accuse the apostles of blasphemy. By a divine miracle both of them can leave prison.

A man named Saul persecutes the followers of Jesus, including as far as Damascus . At the gates of the city he too witnesses an apparition of Christ and is converted. As Paul of Tarsus he joins the band of apostles and begins to carry the word of Jesus to Europe and finally to the world capital Rome .

Background information

The mini-series was filmed in Morocco and Tunisia with simple pictures, and mostly amateur actors, and for the most part adheres to the Acts of the Apostles .

Thematically, the film is a preparation for The Messiah, which was also produced seven years later, in 1976, under the direction of Roberto Rossellini .
