Desiderio (Eng .: "Desire") is a 1984 Italian drama film starring Fanny Ardant .

Lucia, a young, ambitious woman, leaves her hometown in southern Italy to study in the north of the country. She becomes a journalist, gets married and finally works in France . When she wants to travel to her husband Francesco in Greece , the ferry cannot cast off due to bad weather, so that she spontaneously decides to return to her old home after four years of absence and visit her mother Stella.
Once there, Lucia embarks on a short but intense affair with the handsome Vincenzo. Realizing what she's done, she knocks Vincenzo down with an ashtray and flees while he lies unconscious on the floor. On her escape, she meets Vincenzo's little daughter Mariolina, who is running away from her communion . They become friends and try to hide from Vincenzo, who has come to and is now furiously pursuing them. Memories of her childhood come back to Lucia when she was in a similar situation with her grandmother. Reality and memories mix until Lucia leaves her home again and takes the ferry to Greece.

After the Italian censorship authorities released the film despite a few revealing scenes, the film-drama was finally premiered in Italy on February 23, 1984 . In Germany was Desiderio not be published.
