Daniel Toscan du Plantier (born April 7, 1941 in Chambéry , † February 11, 2003 in Berlin ) was a French film producer .

Life

Daniel Toscan du Plantier began producing films in the mid- 1970s . These included collaborations with Werner Herzog , Federico Fellini , Rainer Werner Fassbinder , Ingmar Bergman , Peter Greenaway and João César Monteiro . He appeared as a performer in 101 Nights - The Dreams of M. Cinema ( Les Cent et une nuits de Simon Cinéma , 1996, directed by Agnès Varda )

Plantier was a professor at the IDHEC film school , president of the Gaumont studios between 1975 and 1985 , president of Unifrance and producer for Erato Films. Since 1992 he has also been president of the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma , which awards the César film prize. In 1995, he donated to the American journalist Edward Behr the Prix Lumières . Plantier died in Berlin when he was at the film festival there. His third wife, Sophie Bouniol, was murdered in Cork in 1996 . The crime was never solved.
