Stefan Arndt (born August 28, 1961 in Munich ) is a German film producer who, together with Tom Tykwer , Wolfgang Becker , Dani Levy and Manuela Stehr , runs the production company X Films Creative Pool in Berlin .

Life

Stefan Arndt co-founded the cinema operator group Sputnik-Kollektiv in 1984 and then headed a number of cinemas, such as the Sputnik in Berlin , the Zeise in Hamburg , the Colosseum in East Berlin and the Thalia in Potsdam . In 1992 he founded the Liebesfilm production company with Tom Tykwer , which produced Tykwer's directorial debut Die tödliche Maria .

Two years later, Arndt finally founded the company X Films Creative Pool with Tom Tykwer, Wolfgang Becker and Dani Levy , of which Arndt is the managing partner and which, following the example of the United Artists , is supposed to guarantee the filmmakers extensive creative and economic independence. In his capacity as the producer of most of the X films, Arndt is one of the most important people in the German film industry. He is a co-founder and board member of X-Verleihe, which, in collaboration with Warner Bros., is to ensure the distribution of its own films. He was also a founding member of the German Film Academy in 2003 and its chairman from 2003 to 2009.

The film Liebe , co-produced by Arndt , was nominated five times for the 2013 Oscar and received it as Best Foreign Language Film .

Stefan Arndt is married to the film producer Manuela Stehr , who has been co-managing director of X Films since 2000.
