There she played Jelena Andrejewna in Chekhov's Uncle Vanya in a production by Barbara Frey and Isabella in Maß für Maß by William Shakespeare , directed by Dieter Dorn. In addition to numerous theater roles, Melles was also seen in a number of German films. At times she was part of the ensemble of the Vienna Burgtheater .

In 2005 she played the role of Sophie in the Japanese anime (cartoon) Howl's Moving Castle .
