content
A group of people in their mid-fifties are waiting for Giulia to celebrate her 50th birthday together, bridging the wait with conversations about aging and the ailments of old age. The birthday child ( Corinna Harfouch ) is late and receives the cue from an older lady on the bus: “We are invisible. We elders ». On her spontaneous frustration shopping tour, Giulia meets a stranger ( Bruno Ganz ) who is courting her.
Jessica ( Elisa Schlott ) and Fatima ( Hannah Dietrich ) also shop, but for different reasons. The two teenagers steal sneakers for their crush and are caught doing it. The theft ultimately leads Jessica's divorced parents to the police to pick up their daughter. The separated parents Cornelia ( Susanne-Marie Wrage ) and Max ( Samuel Weiss ) demonstrate the typical behavior of arguing parents.
Meanwhile, Leonie ( Christine Schorn ) is sabotaging the celebration of her eightieth birthday in a retirement home . With pleasure, she rebels against being old and turns the rules of the residence and those of her daughter Helen ( Babett Arens ) upside down.

Reviews
«A wonderful fairy tale that takes aging seriously and cheerful at the same time. The drama is staged with a lightness that is reminiscent of the great comedies of Frank Capra, which otherwise only Claude Lelouche and Robert Altmann can master. (...) All of this presented by a precisely coordinated ensemble in which nobody lets the star hang out. (...) It's just a pleasure to watch - and you'd love to wait for her again for Giulia's next birthday. "
"Smart and entertaining romantic comedy for adults."
«Seldom has transience turned out to be more refreshing than in this cinematic fountain of youth. (...) Light and airy - thanks to harmonious characters, dreamlike casual play and Suter's dialogues. "
“That's what's fascinating about cinema - that it makes you forget the world around you in an instant. Just like on Saturday evening on the Piazza Grande, when Christoph Schaub's film Giulia's Disappearance cast that magic over the festival. (...) »
«And not often in the cinema has it been so elegantly, so loosely and tenderly and brutally scattered in dialogues, told and made clear as in Giulia's Disappearance. (...) The concrete, realistic originality of Schaub's film was quite capable of capturing the piazza. "
“As if Suter did not trust that the film could make clear statements visually. Image and dialogue stretch into a kind of echo chamber in which one side reinforces the other, sometimes repeating it. That gives Giulia's disappearance in some moments, especially in the comedically successful, an extremely dense atmosphere. In others, however, the film seems almost autistic in its absolute fixation on a central theme. "
