Carl Melles , Hungarian Károly Melles (born July 15, 1926 in Budapest , † April 25, 2004 in Vienna ) was an Austrian conductor of Hungarian origin.

Appearances

Melles has conducted the Berlin Philharmonic , the Vienna Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra and the New Philharmonia Orchestra London and has performed with soloists such as Wilhelm Kempff , Nathan Milstein , David Oistrach , Maurizio Pollini , Swjatoslaw Richter , Mstislaw Rostropowitsch and Arthur Rubinstein .

In addition to appearances at the Wiener Festwochen , the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festival , Melles also appeared internationally, namely in the USA , Japan and South Africa . From 1996 Melles lived withdrawn in Vienna for health reasons.

Carl Melles was buried in the Hietzinger Friedhof in Vienna.

Von Melles has a live recording of the nine Beethoven symphonies with the Braunschweig State Orchestra , of which he subsequently became honorary conductor in 1995 .

Awards

In 1995 Melles received the Great Silver Decoration of Honor from the Republic of Austria .
