Judith Melles

Judith Melles (born October 23, 1929 in Budapest ; † March 8, 2001 in Basel ), born as Judit Rohonczy and also known under the names Judith Rohonczy-Melles and Judith von Rohonczy , was a Hungarian actress who has worked in German-speaking countries since 1956 was active.

Life

Melles attended the Drama Academy in Budapest from 1948 to 1949. In 1950/51 she was a scholarship holder of the national theater there , from 1952 she was part of its ensemble .

After the Hungarian uprising in 1956, she fled to Austria with her husband, the conductor Károly Melles (Carl Melles). From 1956 to 1958 she played at the Theater der Courage and at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna. In 1961 she received an engagement at the Comedy Basel , which in 1968 was merged with the Stadttheater Basel to form the Basel Theaters, where she was active for decades. There she played Frosine in Molières Der Geizige , Countess Geschwitz in Wedekind's Lulu , Frau Sarti in Brecht's Life of Galilei , Frau Hassenreuther in Hauptmann's Die Ratten , the mother in Arthur Schnitzler's Das weite Land and old Biach in The Last Days of Mankind by Karl Kraus (in Vienna and Basel) directed by Hans Hollmann . Her last stage role was in 1998 Marina in Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanja at the Basel Theater, directed by Peter Palitzsch .

Judith Melles also took on various film, television and radio play roles.

The actress Sunnyi Melles comes from the later divorced marriage with the conductor Carl Melles .
